Precious avocado oil.

Assists in maintaining the skin's moisture balance while moisturizing dry, sensitive skin, making it smooth and supple. The avocado fruit's pulp, from which the oil is derived, is rich in essential fatty acids and vitamins. It absorbs fast after smoothly gliding across the skin.

Good for the skin, better for the world.

The avocado is a priceless, nutritious, important raw material in the food industry. It is also a well-liked moisturizing component for skin care because of essential fatty acids and vitamins, but its ecological balance is disastrous. Particularly in Central and South America, monoculture, forest clearance, high water usage, and terrible working conditions are frequently associated with avocado production. Avocados from our partner, LIMBUA, on the other hand, are better for the environment and for your skin.

In harmony with people and nature.

At LIMBUA, cultivation, harvest, and processing are all done in harmony with both people and the environment. There is no additional irrigation required because the Mount Kenya region offers the perfect weather conditions and ample rainfall. This makes it possible for numerous crops of organic mangoes and macadamia nuts to be grown alongside organic avocados in agroforestry systems at the base of Africa's second-highest peak. Although it may seem like a modern farming technique, this is actually the tried-and-true, sustainable system employed in rural areas. With LIMBUA, almost 5,000 independent smallholders are employed. This environmentally friendly organic farming provides food for about 25,000 people, including their families.

100% traceability.

Since 2009, we have collaborated extensively with our partner LIMBUA, first on a project involving organic macadamia nuts and subsequently, in 2016, on a project involving organic avocados. Although the cultivation practices are traditional, the crops' traceability is modern: the avocado's whole trip can be digitally tracked. Field officials' collect the avocados from the farms and weigh the produce there using portable digital scales.

The farmers are recognized by their fingerprints, which also serve to validate the outcomes of the weighing. A mobile payment system on a mobile phone is used to make the payment there and then, making it possible to see the payment's receipt straight away. The avocados are then shipped in containers that have barcode labels on them. This makes it possible for us to always know the origin of the fruit, even when it is being processed in the factories.

Local processing.

Since 2021, Kenya has also participated in the value chain's last stage, which involves turning avocados into oil, thanks to Dr. Hauschka's assistance. As opposed to the custom of constructing massive production systems, LIMBUA has factories at a number of places close to the fields. Because of the short travel distances between farms and processing facilities, freshness, quality, and minimal CO2 emissions are all assured. Since 2021, Dr. Hauschka products have used organic Fair for Life certified avocado oil made by LIMBUA.

The main benefit of processing in Kenya is that the value-added process involves people more intimately. Since the majority of the manufacturing workers are from local farming families, they are processing their own raw materials. They acquire important knowledge and new processing methods in their native nation. Therefore, there is a lot of work available, both easy positions that merely require physical labor and those that call for specialized training in agronomy or food technology. This gives many young people the opportunity to remain local, even if their homes are in remote areas.

Fair for Life certification.

Naturamus GmbH, a separate subsidiary of WALA Heilmittel GmbH, is in charge of procuring all of the raw materials for Dr. Hauschka Skin Care. Naturamus holds the Fair for Life certification, just like LIMBUA. This certification, which is a particularly stringent fair trade standard, signifies a socio-ecologically sustainable value chain from the source to the finished good. By adding 5% to the purchase price, naturamus also contributes to the LIMBUA-managed Fair for Life fund. In recent years, the fund has been utilized, among other things, to purchase new seedlings and organic fertilizer as well as textbooks and notebooks for schoolchildren from low-income households.

The region can plainly see LIMBUA's dedication because added value stays in Embu, training and higher education are actively supported, and there is price stability for avocados produced sustainably. The best part of everything is actually that.
